This blog post follows my earlier blog article titled: ONGC GT Recruitment-2012 Notification, Eligibility & Forms, which helps you to download the notification as well as how to apply for the same. The focus of this post is on how to prepare for the ONGC Graduate Trainee (GT) Exam. It at first gives you the pattern of ONGC GT written test and than the sources of sample papers & books for its preparation. ONGC GT Exam Pattern:
In its recruitment notification, ONGC has not elaborated much on what would be the pattern of the ONGC GT Exam 2012 other than just specifying that:
1.0 The exam paper would be of Objective type (i.e. Multiple Choice Questions).
2.0 The exam paper would consist of three sections:
i) General Awareness test section– common to all.
Other than above, the recruitment notification does not say anything about how many questions are likely to be asked in each paper and what would be the mark distribution.

iii) Aptitude test section– common to all, containing question from following areas:

3.0 Duration for ONGC GT Exam 2012 is 3 hours.iii) Aptitude test section– common to all, containing question from following areas:

So based on the exam experiences of candidates who had appeared in the previous years ONGC GT exam, I found pattern of ONGC GT exam as given in the table at right. This may vary with the question/marks in the actual exam you are going to face; nevertheless, this test pattern gives you a direction to prepare:
There is a change in the pattern of ONGC GT Exam from this year onwards, in ONGC GT Exam 2012, Aptitude test section has been included. Previously, there were only two sections: General Awareness & Subject Specialization.

ONGC GT Exam Sample Papers:
What type of questions are asked in this test? Some sample questions of ONGC written test is definitely going to help you in sizing up the test. I had tried to find those online sample papers for the ONGC written exam and I could find the following sample question papers:
This is a good source where you can find sample paper/exam experience for four previous ONGC written exams.
But above ONGC sample papers only gives you some insights on what type of questions may be asked. For serious study for the Specialization subject paper, as you can find from the feedback of ex-candidates of ONGC exam, you have to go back to your college days.
